“America’s Best Idea”

Travel Feature Idea: US National Parks Centenary

The US National Parks, described as “America’s best idea,” celebrate their 100th anniversary this year.  Over the past 90 years, the US-based luxury tour operator, Tauck has brought over two and a half million visitors to experience the delights and wonders of the nation’s treasured parkland.

If you’re planning a feature to coincide with the centenary, Tauck has a wealth of knowledge and on-hand specialists who know the parks from A to Z – Acadia to Zion.

Tauck can arrange an interview or set up a Q and A, as well as provide a wealth of background information, authentic images and engaging video.

  •  This year, Tauck tours will visit 51 sites in the National Parks or administered by the US National Park Service
  • Tauck has unprecedented access to the national parks including overnight stays in park lodges, often unavailable on other tours, as they often sell out a year in advance.
  • Tauck’s national park tours include many co-designed with filmmakers Ken Burns (America’s David Attenborough) and Dayton Duncan, who’s award-winning documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” has established them as National Park authorities. In specially-commissioned documentary films, shown exclusively to Tauck guests on tour, Ken Burns helps Tauck to add further interest and colour to its national park itineraries. You can see a few snippets in a selection of promotional Tauck national park videos at: http://tauck.co.uk/videos.aspx, including:

  2. National Parks Centennial
  3. Blue Grass and Blue Ridges: Louisville to Nashville
  4. Yosemite and Sequoia: John Muir’s California
  5. Yellowstone and Grand Teton
  6. Yellowstone and the Tetons: American Safari
  7. Culturious – Wonderland: Yellowstone in Winter
  8. America’s Canyonlands
  • Tauck has been honoured by the White House for its philanthropic efforts to help preserve the national parks and this year Tauck announced a major grant to preserve Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park – a homesteader settlement including the iconic and much-photographed TA Moulton Barn.
  • In 2016 and 2017 Tauck will run an educational tour programme for disadvantaged, inner-city children from low-income families to explore and learn about the national parks. The itinerary showcases Gettysburg National Military Park, the National Mall in Washington DC, Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia and Fort McHenry National Monument in Baltimore.
  • Tauck’s CEO, Dan Mahar, and President, Jennifer Tombaugh, knowledgeable experts on the parks, are available for interview and will be able to add colour and interest to any national park story.

If the topic appeals, we would be delighted to assist.
